The National Football League (NFL) is the main professional American football league, consisting of 32 teams divided equally between the National Football Conference and the American Football Conference. NFL’s regular season runs for 18 weeks, from September to January. Similar to basketball, with seven teams from each conference making it to the playoffs. The main event – the Super Bowl – takes place during the first Sunday in February and it’s one of the world’s most-watched sports events in the world: 2020’s edition gathered almost 100-million American football fans from the U.S. and 50-million from the rest of the world.
When it comes to betting in the U.S., the highest amounts also go to the NFL league matches, with the Super Bowl gathering bettors across the globe. 2021 also saw an impressive increase in betting in the states where online sports gambling became legal: more than 117 million dollars were wagered in New Jersey alone on the Super Bowl event, with 90%+ of the bets placed online.
